Oasis Launches Matter of Balance!
Dear Oasis Friends,
I am thrilled to share exciting news with you all! Thanks to a funding contract we were awarded through the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services/Area Agency on Aging, we are launching a new program that will be offered for free, called Matter of Balance, dedicated to promoting fall prevention among older adults.
Many adults experience a fear of falling, which can unfortunately lead to reduced activity and increased risk of falls. A Matter of Balance (MOB) is specifically designed to address these concerns by enhancing confidence and increasing activity levels. Developed at the Roybal Center at Boston University, this nationally recognized program offers both in-person and virtual community classes to reach seniors who may be housebound.
- Program Details: In-person sessions consist of 8 two-hour in-person meetings, while virtual sessions span 9 two-hour meetings.
- Group Size: Each session is led by two trained coach facilitators for a small group of 8-12 participants.
- Who Should Participate: This program is ideal for adults aged 60 and above who are concerned about falls, have sustained falls in the past and who are eager to boost their confidence in preventing falls.
We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to serve as peer coaches for this valuable initiative. If you have a passion for helping others and want to make a difference in your community, please consider becoming a coach. Your support will be crucial in empowering older adults to live active and fulfilling lives. Click here for more information about coach training and how to register.
Together, we can make a significant impact in preventing falls and enhancing the quality of life for our community members.
Warm regards,
Anna
