Montgomery County’s Active Aging Week is October 5–11 with dozens of free programs and activities for adults 55 and older. From fitness and dancing to art, pickleball, clubs, wellness programs, and lifelong learning, there are plenty of opportunities to discover something new and stay active – physically, mentally, and socially. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself, meet new people, or simply find a fun way to stay engaged, Active Aging Week is an invitation to keep learning, growing, and enjoying all that Montgomery County has to offer.
What’s Happening Inside the Political Parties?
As the 2026 midterm elections approach, both major political parties are experiencing significant internal changes. What’s driving those shifts and what might they mean for the political landscape? Join Geoffrey Kabaservice, Vice President for Political Studies at the Niskanen Center, for The Midterms and the Party Identity Crises on Thursday, October 15. This lecture will explore the evolving identities, internal divisions, and competing factions within both the Republican and Democratic parties, providing context for understanding the forces shaping this election cycle.

October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, offer support, and celebrate the strength of those affected by breast cancer. Washington Metro Oasis is proud to host Suburban Hospital’s Talk & Walk Breast Cancer Support Group, a free program offering breast cancer survivors an opportunity to connect with others through supportive conversation and a group walk. The group meets at Oasis on the 3rd Friday of each month from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 16.
