Double the Fun: Learn Bridge with Jim & Nelle
High school sweethearts Jim and Nelle Lucas grew up in families where bridge was woven into daily life. “We’d play at Jim’s house with his parents, or at mine with mine,” Nelle recalls. That early bond has carried through their marriage, their friendships, and now their teaching.
With over 40 years of experience in both club and tournament play, Jim and Nelle bring deep knowledge as well as joy to the classroom. Both are longtime members of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). Jim is a Ruby Life Master, while Nelle has earned the distinction of Silver Life Master. Both are also certified ACBL instructors, ensuring that their students learn from teachers recognized for their skill and professionalism.
But as impressive as the titles sound, the Lucases are quick to remind their students that bridge is about much more than points and ranks. “Bridge is such a mind game,” Nelle explains. “It teases and stretches your brain. That’s why people like Bill Gates wanted it taught in schools. It keeps your mind sharp.”
As instructors, Jim and Nelle bring warmth, humor, and an easygoing style. “We are very gregarious people,” Jim notes. “I usually do the talking, and Nelle corrects me. We’re like Pat Sajak and Vanna White. But most of all, we enjoy what we do, and that shows through. It’s a fun class, never stressful.”
For them, bridge is more than a game. It’s a way to keep the mind lively, the spirit playful, and friendships flourishing. Jim and Nelle’s class promises both challenge and a community worth joining.
