At Oasis, I often say, “We wouldn’t open our doors if it weren’t for our dedicated corps of volunteers.” This couldn’t be truer. Our small but passionate staff is supported daily by our talented and selfless volunteers, and we are deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment. Thank you for helping keep our doors open and our mission vibrant.

I am thrilled to spotlight Jo Smith (pictured at right), a cherished Oasis volunteer for 16 years. Jo has generously contributed her time at our reception desk. Every Monday morning, Jo provides excellent customer service to Oasis participants and assists the Oasis team with many of the administrative tasks needed to make our operation flow.

A number of years ago, Jo decided she wanted to do something in memory of her dear friend Robin Fields.  Robin was a beloved Oasis instructor and volunteer.  According to Jo, Robin loved music and travel.  So, to commemorate Robin, Jo worked with Oasis staff to create and underwrite an annual Robin Fields Memorial Concert.  Attendees are treated to a top-notch musical performance and reception.  Past performers include Steve Friedman, Robyn Helzner, Steve Gellman, Julie Kurzava, and Seth Kibel.

This year’s Robin Fields Memorial Concert, titled Music from the Cultural Crossroads of Europe, will take place on September 10, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The performance will feature Karen Ashbrook (hammered dulcimer, wooden flute) and Paul Oorts (harp guitar, accordion) as they take us on a delightful musical journey through Belgium, France, and Celtic regions, enriched with stories of travel and musical history. A light reception will follow the concert.
